This course is a computer-based self-study tutorial. The course is meant for participants who do not have a background in food security and/or nutrition as a way to get acquainted with current issues in food and nutrition security. For those who do have a background in food security and/or nutrition, the tutorial can serve as a refresher.

The course can be followed through the internet or from a CD Rom. The necessary backstopping will be given by course staff.

The course consists of 5 main chapters to know:

  • the world food situation
  • statistics and epidemiology
  • nutritional assessment
  • nutrition physiology and food hygiene and preservation.

Concepts such as household food security, nutrition security, nutrition in the lifecycle, right based approaches, sustainable livelihood approaches are explained.
