On Thursday 17 September, CD&IC organises an Interactive Reflection Day For Wageningen UR Researchers on this topic. It explores how science is used in Multi-stakeholder processes (MSPs) for policy development and innovation.
MSPs are increasingly seen as a critical way of dealing with complex, high risk and high consequence societal problems, such as climate change, overcoming endemic poverty or reducing pollution levels. However much remains to be understood about their role and effectiveness. Similarly, the role of research in policy development is ambiguous. The seminar will address some key questions about the research – policy interface. There will be two presentations of complex MSPs in which research has played an important role in policy development: the extension of the Frankfurt International Airport and Climate Change Adaptation in the Netherlands. Furthermore participants will explore the successes and challenges of MSPs as a research-policy interface based on their own experiences. Interactive methods for reflection and sharing will be used throughout the day.
The day is part of the three-week international course on 'Facilitating Multi-stakeholder Processes and Social Learning' attended by some 30 participants from all over the world. They will facilitate and actively take part in the seminar. Other Wageningen UR Researchers engaged in the research-policy interface and MSPs are also invited to participate.
