Emerging challenges for nutrition security; HIV/AIDS and ARVs in Sub Saharan Africa

HIV and AIDS are having a devastating effect world-wide. In Sub Sahara Africa there are 22 M. people living with HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS; 2008) of which 59% are women. While mortality rates have been reduced through prevention interventions, counseling, testing, support and treatment, the potential for nutrition to contribute to a decline in HIV/AIDS-related morbidity and mortality has neither kept pace nor lived up to its potential

The course is intended for professionals of public and private organisations working in HIV/Aids and food/ nutrition related fields. Qualifying participants will be drawn from the alumni of ICFNS with NFP fellowship (1996-2007) or are direct colleagues of these alumni. and active as:

·       senior technical staff/programme managers involved in programmes on food and nutrition security for PLWHAs

·       policy staff responsible for drafting strategic and/or development policies on HIV/AIDS and food security;

·       staff members of universities and colleges of higher education with responsibility for curriculum development and training in  Health/HIV/Aids food and nutrition

·       Originate from Sub-Saharan Africa and preferably working in the Southern, Central or Eastern Africa countries.
