It is generally recognised that the potato, as the fourth global food crop, plays an important role in international agricultural development. This has prompted the UN General Assembly to designate 2008 as International Year of the Potato. In countries worldwide, a reliable supply of quality seed is crucial to the development of the potato sector.
This course aims to provide course participants with insights, knowledge and skills for applying modern technology in seed supply systems in different agro-ecological regions of the world. The course covers both formal and informal seed systems as well as relevant quality control systems and seed policies. Relevant examples from the Dutch seed potato industry will be demonstrated and discussed.
