Transition to sustainable livestock systems

This 10-day course addresses issues regarding modern R&D by the public and private sector for transition to sustainable livestock systems. It covers aspects of production (feeds, breeds, management etc.), processing and chain management (HACCP, GAP, Value addition), as well as policy setting and long term developments (climate change, biodiversity, resource re-generation, public health etc.) 

The course focuses on:

  • sustainability of livestock production with industrial-, mixed- and/or organic farming approaches, in rural and peri-urban systems, e.g. in terms of nutrient flows, income, community and ecological resilience, pollution, regeneration of watersheds;
  • issues of animal production and changing contexts, public health, food scares and food quality management, as well as value addition;
  • management for people, planet and profit by the private and public sector; good agricultural practices, use of water- and fossil fuel reserves, regeneration of soils, rural wellbeing and shorter food chains.

Fee: € 750 (with possibility for group discount)
